About: “South African rapper YoungstaCPT’s debut solo album 3T was years in the works. But the rapper realized he needed to establish his identity before releasing it. For years, he released mixtapes, totaling 30 to date. Add many EPs, a few joint albums, innumerable music videos, and a few tours to an already impressive CV, and you have one of the most successful rappers south of the Equator.” – THE FADER.

After listening to YoungstaCPT’s album 3T, the similarities between American towns like Compton and South Africa’s Cape Town are clear. West Coast rappers were 25 years distant from segregation and the supposed sense of freedom when they reflected on the crack era and police violence in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Now, 25 years after apartheid, Cape Town’s young are experiencing a similar reawakening and discovering that the liberties for which their ancestors fought have yet to be realized. “I am the voice of the people who have been denied the right to speak all along. What do you suppose those folks would say after so many years of silence? That’s who I am.

“The Cape Town rapper YoungstaCPT is one of the most prolific emcess in South Africa…” – Okay Africa.
